Platform Engineering

What once required months of platform engineering can now start with a prompt.

Building great software is only half the battle. The other half is making it incredibly easy for customers to use it.

One customer wants SaaS. Another wants your software inside their AWS account. A third needs Azure, a specific region, private networking, or dedicated GPUs. An enterprise customer may insist on running everything inside its own data center. They all want the same product. They just want to consume it differently.

Traditionally, supporting these requirements meant building a sophisticated control plane, hiring platform engineers, writing infrastructure automation, and spending months getting everything production-ready.

Just as AI has transformed how developers build applications, Omnistrate’s Control Plane Generator is transforming how they deploy and operate them—enabling developers to generate enterprise-grade control planes in minutes, without building the underlying deployment and operations infrastructure from scratch.

First, What Is a Control Plane, and Why Do You Need One?

Your product is what customers buy. Your control plane is what makes that product easy to consume and operate.

It automates everything around your software: customer onboarding, infrastructure provisioning, deployment, configuration, scaling, upgrades, backups, monitoring, and ongoing operations.

Without a control plane, every new customer deployment can become an engineering project —a bottleneck we've explored in why deployment automation is a day-one problem for AI startups.

You need a control plane from day one. But you shouldn't need a team of control-plane engineers to build one. That's what we've changed.

How We Turn AI Prompts into a Working Control Plane

Imagine you have built an AI application, a database, an inference engine, or any other B2B software. You already have your application packaged using containers, Helm, Terraform, or a Kubernetes operator.

Now, instead of building the surrounding deployment platform yourself, you can use your favorite coding agent with Omnistrate Agent Skills.

Simply describe what you want: “Turn my application into a managed service. Let customers deploy it in their preferred cloud, account, and region. Support different infrastructure configurations, scaling, backups, upgrades, and automated lifecycle management.”

Your AI agent can help turn those requirements into a declarative service definition, get your approval, generate your control plane on Omnistrate, and deploy it in your account.

Note that we first turn your prompt into a declarative specification that you explicitly review and approve before we generate your control plane to make lifecycle flows deterministic while making it super easy for you to describe your requirements.

Omnistrate provides the infrastructure orchestration, deployment automation, APIs, customer management, billing, and operational capabilities underneath.

Watch It in Action: ScyllaDB as a Managed Service

How to Turn ScyllaDB into a Fully Managed Service with Omnistrate

This video walks through the steps of using an AI agent with Omnistrate Skills to turn an existing ScyllaDB Kubernetes operator into a managed service.
The agent builds a declarative ServicePlanSpec that defines the service's lifecycle, including provisioning, backup, restore, scaling, stopping, starting, and replacing cluster members. These operations are then tested against real clusters, with results validated for data consistency.

The demonstration shows how easy it is to go from an existing database operator to a working managed-service control plane using Omnistrate.

In this example, we used an existing ScyllaDB Kubernetes operator, which manages the database. In the same way, you could bring your containers, Helm, Kustomize, and Docker images. Depending on the artifact, the generated control plane will convert your artifacts into a product.

One Product. Every Deployment Model.

Your customers shouldn't have to change how they work just to use your software. Your software should adapt to their infrastructure, security requirements, and preferred consumption model.

With Omnistrate, you can offer:

  • Multi-tenant and cellular SaaS: Let customers sign up and start using your product in your cloud, with shared infrastructure or isolated cells.
  • Single-tenant SaaS: Offer dedicated customer environments with stronger isolation, performance guarantees, and operational controls.
  • Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC): Deploy and manage your software inside customer-owned cloud accounts, VPCs, and networks.
  • Customer-managed Kubernetes and on-premises: Run on existing Kubernetes infrastructure, including enterprise data centers and specialized GPU clusters.
  • Air-gapped deployments: Package your software for disconnected environments where live connectivity to your control plane is not permitted.

We've written more about why enterprise SaaS is moving toward isolated tenancy models and why BYOC is becoming essential for enterprise software. And the flexibility doesn't end with the deployment model.

Different customers can choose different clouds, regions, accounts, development or production environments, instance sizes, CPU or GPU hardware, storage options, replica counts, and application configurations.

A startup can try your product in your hosted SaaS environment. An enterprise can run it in its own AWS VPC. Another customer can deploy it on Azure, Google Cloud, or an approved Kubernetes cluster.
You can manage these choices through a common service specification and reusable deployment automation, rather than maintaining an entirely separate deployment system for every customer.

Your unified control plane allows you to manage different requirements through a consistent experience for your customers and your operations team.

Your Control Plane Is Now a Prompt Away

AI has fundamentally changed how we build software. We believe it should also change how we deliver software.

You shouldn't need to become an expert in cloud provisioning, Kubernetes operations, multi-tenancy, customer onboarding, or infrastructure automation just to get your product into your customers' hands.

You should be able to describe what you want, iterate with your AI agent, validate the result, and let a purpose-built platform handle the underlying complexity.

That's the future we're building at Omnistrate.
